Georgia Tech Lands Troy's Scott Cross as Next Basketball Coach

Scott Cross will become Georgia Tech's next men's basketball head coach, according to ESPN sources. The 52-year-old former UT Arlington and Troy mentor boasts a 350-161 Division I record over 19 seasons, including back-to-back NCAA tournaments and Sun Belt regular-season titles at Troy. His hiring replaces Damon Stoudamire, who failed to reach the NCAA tournament in three seasons and was fired after a 11-20 finish.

Cross's dismissal from UT Arlington after three 20-win seasons in 2018 proved disastrous, leading to three coaches and just one 20-win season since. Tech, last in the ACC with a 2-16 record and 11-20 overall, seeks stability after a 12-game losing streak. Cross's hire marks a marquee move for new AD Ryan Alpert, who aims to rebuild a program that reached only one NCAA tournament since 2010 under Josh Pastner.

Tech officials confirmed they'll fund the program competitively in the ACC.
