Arizona State University will not renew Bobby Hurley's contract as men's basketball coach after 11 seasons, athletic director Graham Rossini announced Wednesday. The decision came hours after the Sun Devils suffered a humiliating 91-42 blowout loss to No. 7 Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament, marking Hurley's final game in Tempe.

Hurley, who finishes with a 185-167 record at ASU, will be placed on paid administrative leave through June. The two-time Duke national champion and NCAA assists leader led Arizona State to three NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back berths in 2018-19. However, the Sun Devils struggled in recent years, finishing 12th in the 16-team Big 12 at 7-11 and 17-16 overall.

Hurley's tenure included memorable highs like runner-up finishes at the Maui Invitable and NCAA appearances, but also frustrating lows with home-court struggles and inconsistent performances. The Sun Devils beat No. 14 Kansas in Hurley's final home game but were trounced by Iowa State days later. After the West Virginia loss in January, Hurley expressed frustration saying, "We failed. I'm failing. I can't get through to the team." His departure leaves him as the second-winningest coach in program history behind Ned Wulk.
