Syracuse Fires Adrian Autry After Three Seasons Without NCAA Tournament

Syracuse University has fired men's basketball coach Adrian Autry after three seasons without reaching the NCAA tournament, sources confirmed to ESPN. The decision comes one day after the Orange's season ended with an 86-69 loss to SMU in the ACC tournament. Autry's teams finished 15-17 this season and 14th in the ACC, failing to qualify for postseason play.

Autry, who succeeded Jim Boeheim as head coach in 2023, went 49-48 overall but never advanced past the regular season. His best year was his first, when Syracuse went 20-14 and finished tied for fifth in the ACC. The program raised its NIL budget this season to pursue NCAA tournament aspirations, but the team lost six straight games to close the year.

Autry acknowledged the disappointing results in his postgame press conference, saying he was "harder on myself than anybody" and didn't achieve the desired outcomes. The timing of the firing aligns with athletic director John Wildhack's planned July 1 retirement, with the outgoing AD set to make the coaching change before the new AD takes over.
