Virginia has fired head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton after just one season that saw the Cavaliers reach their first Sweet 16 since 2000. The Cavaliers' historic run began in the First Four, making them the first First Four team to advance this far in tournament history. Despite falling to TCU in the Sweet 16, Agugua-Hamilton expressed pride in her team's growth and performance. She noted that while the third quarter got away from them in the loss, it didn't diminish their season's achievements.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, a Virginia alum, expressed surprise at the coaching change and reached out to Agugua-Hamilton. Staley hopes Virginia can rebuild its women's basketball program, noting the school's rich tradition.
