United App Adds Standby Lists for Earlier Flights

United Airlines has launched a new mobile app feature allowing passengers to join standby lists for up to three earlier flights to the same destination. This self-service tool aims to simplify flight changes during disruptions, just in time for Labor Day travel. If a passenger is rescheduled to a later flight due to delays or cancellations, they can now add themselves to standby lists without contacting an agent.

United will monitor the selected flights and send a text notification when a seat becomes available. The passenger retains the choice to switch flights, and the original reservation remains intact until a decision is made. This update is part of United's broader rollout of self-service recovery tools, which already include real-time aircraft status updates, TSA wait time tracking, and luggage location sharing capabilities.

The feature is designed to give travelers more control over their itineraries during busy holiday weekends.
