Mechanix Wear, backed by Gryphon Investors, has acquired Otex, a US-based personal protective equipment manufacturer, marking the company's third acquisition under Gryphon's ownership. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Valencia, California, Mechanix Wear specializes in hand protection and protective apparel. Otex CEO Jake Weidert will join the platform as vice president of technology and materials, ensuring continuity in the combined entity's operations.

This acquisition strengthens Mechanix Wear's portfolio of premium, R&D-led protective equipment. Ryan Fagan, a partner at Gryphon Investors, emphasized that Otex aligns with the company's vision to build a differentiated platform in the protective equipment market. The deal follows Mechanix Wear's strategic expansion under Gryphon's ownership, with legal and financial advisors including Kirkland & Ellis LLP and EC M&A facilitating the transaction.
