Why Waiting for Apple's 2027 iPhone Makes Sense

If you're in the market for a new iPhone, patience might pay off. Apple is reportedly developing a special 20th-anniversary iPhone scheduled for September 2027, and early rumors suggest it will feature the most significant redesign since the iPhone X debuted in 2017. The device could represent a substantial leap forward in iPhone design.

According to Bloomberg, the anniversary model will have glass edges that curve seamlessly into the display on all four sides. The Information reported that early prototypes featured virtually no bezels around the screen—only a narrow metal band running around the midpoint where buttons would sit. Apple is also attempting to eliminate screen cutouts entirely by moving both the front camera and Face ID system under the display, though it's unclear if the company can achieve this technical feat by 2027.

The company faces significant challenges pulling this off. For annual upgraders, the advice won't apply, but the typical iPhone user holds onto their device for two to four years, making the wait potentially worthwhile. In the meantime, Apple will release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, followed by additional models around March 2027.
