20th Anniversary iPhone All-Screen Design in Doubt

A top display analyst is pushing back on rumors of a dramatic all-screen redesign for the iPhone's 20th anniversary in 2027. Ross Young, formerly of Counterpoint Research, expects Apple to retain a smaller Dynamic Island with a centered hole-punch cutout through 2028. He predicts a truly notch-free iPhone won't arrive until 2030.

This directly challenges Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who reported last year that Apple aims for a glass device with no display cutouts. The discrepancy highlights how fluid iPhone roadmaps can be, with supply chain timelines shifting as Apple works to move Face ID and the front camera under the display.

One possibility is that Apple is developing a special anniversary model above the Pro tier, similar to the iPhone X launch. This could debut the all-screen design for a premium model while standard Pro versions keep the Dynamic Island. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected this September.
