A Weibo leaker claims Apple's iPhone 18 will feature an unprecedentedly bright display, pushing Chinese supplier BOE out of contention. This suggests the next iPhone will see a considerable leap in brightness, building on recent annual increases.

Apple has steadily raised display brightness since the iPhone 13. The iPhone 15, 16, and 17 hit 1,000 nits typical and 1,600 nits peak HDR, with the iPhone 17 reaching 3,000 nits outdoor peak. The report aligns with BOE's ongoing OLED production struggles, which recently shifted millions of orders to Samsung Display.

The iPhone 18 is expected in early 2027 with an A20 chip and C2 modem. While higher brightness improves outdoor visibility, it may also raise battery demands and production costs, continuing Apple's spec race.
