Google Expands Quick Share to Bridge Android and iPhone Gap

Google rolled out an update to its file‑sharing tool that lets Android users send files to iPhones. The tweak expands Quick Share’s AirDrop compatibility to brands like Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and HONOR by 2026. Users can now tap a QR code on Android phone and push content to iOS devices via the cloud.

For devices that lack AirDrop support, the QR‑code route offers instant, cloud‑based sharing. The feature is already live on all Androids today and will be fully rolled out within a month. Google also hinted that Quick Share could soon appear inside popular messaging apps such as WhatsApp, broadening its reach for users switching between ecosystems.

Under Europe’s Digital Markets Act, both Apple and Google pushed for smoother device migration. Apple rolled the switching tool into iOS 26.3, while Google plans a similar transfer for Samsung Galaxy and Pixel phones in 2026. The move lets users move eSIM, passwords, photos, messages, apps, contacts and even Home Screen layouts wirelessly for a seamless transition.

With Quick Share now universal and the migration tools in place, Android users gain a practical alternative to AirDrop, while iPhone owners see a more robust path to Android. The cross‑platform synergy signals a shift toward greater interoperability in the mobile ecosystem, directly benefiting everyday users without needing third‑party apps or complex setups for both sides.
