Google announced expanded support for its Quick Share feature across Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor devices, enabling seamless file transfers between Android phones and iPhones via QR codes. Previously limited to Google Pixel devices, the update eliminates reliance on slow uploads or third-party apps for cross-platform sharing. The QR code solution allows instant cloud-based transfers, addressing a long-standing frustration for Android users.

The feature now integrates directly into apps like WhatsApp, streamlining sharing workflows. Google also improved its iOS-to-Android migration tool, enabling wireless transfer of passwords, messages, apps, and even home screen layouts. This update, revealed at The Android Show: I/O Edition 2026, prioritizes simplicity for users switching ecosystems. Notably, eSIM transfers are now supported, removing another setup hurdle.

While Android Central acknowledges the improvement as a step toward reducing platform-specific friction, it notes lingering skepticism about overhyped AI-driven updates. The focus remains on practical reliability rather than futuristic features. For years, Android users faced cumbersome workarounds when sharing files with iPhones—a problem now largely resolved through Google’s partnerships and technical refinements.

This development underscores Google’s push to unify Android’s ecosystem while challenging Apple’s AirDrop dominance. By embedding Quick Share into daily-use apps and enhancing migration tools, Google aims to make Android a more attractive option for users tired of fragmented experiences.
