Google's Quick Share Now Lets Android Send Files to iPhones Via QR Code

Google is rolling out a new QR code sharing feature that lets Android users send files to iPhones through Quick Share. When sharing a file, users now see an option labeled "Share with iPhone and other devices" that generates a scanable QR code. This serves as a fallback for devices that don't support native Quick Share to AirDrop compatibility.

Once scanned, the QR code takes recipients to quickshare.google.com where they can download the files. Google says the shared files remain available for 24 hours and are protected with end-to-end encryption. The feature is already appearing on some devices, though the rollout appears gradual.

This QR code workaround addresses a persistent pain point: sharing files between Android and iPhones has historically been clunky. While native Quick Share to AirDrop support remains the better solution, this cloud-based approach removes significant friction for users on devices that haven't received the native compatibility update yet.
