Google is rolling out AirDrop support for Quick Share to Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices, expanding cross-platform file sharing capabilities to more Android smartphones. The feature, which allows direct file transfers to iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, was initially limited to the newer Pixel 10 lineup when announced in November.

The expanded support means Pixel 9 users can now send files to Apple devices using the same interface and experience as native AirDrop transfers. Both platforms require users to enable "Everyone for 10 Minutes" visibility settings for successful transfers. Files transfer directly between devices without requiring an internet connection, with photos going to the Photos app and documents to the Files app.

Google designed the interoperability with a multi-layered security approach, including secure sharing channels, platform protections, and mandatory consent before file receipt. The peer-to-peer connections display device names for verification, ensuring users know exactly which device they're sharing with. This expansion represents a significant step toward seamless cross-platform file sharing between Android and Apple ecosystems.
