Nothing Removes Lock Screen Ads From Flagship Phones

Nothing has announced the removal of its controversial Lock Glimpse feature from its flagship Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro models. Lock Glimpse, introduced with Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16 in October 2025, displayed advertisements on the lock screen and faced significant user backlash due to battery drain issues, even when disabled. Despite being technically optional, the feature continued to impact device performance negatively.

However, the removal comes with a caveat: the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite and future CMF phones will retain the lock screen ads. According to Nothing, this decision reflects different market positioning, where the Lite model prioritizes affordability over premium user experience. The company stated that Lock Glimpse will be disabled by default on these devices and remains easily removable as they work on improvements.

This move underscores the growing tension between monetization strategies and user experience in the smartphone industry. As manufacturers seek new revenue streams, features like Lock Glimpse highlight the delicate balance between profitability and customer satisfaction. Nothing's partial rollback demonstrates a response to user feedback while maintaining cost-effectiveness for budget-tier devices.
