Android QR file sharing now works with iPhone

Google is adding a QR‑code shortcut to Quick Share that lets Android phones push files straight to iPhones. When the sender generates a code, the iPhone user scans it with the native Camera app, triggering a secure cloud upload and a private download link, letting the transfer happen instantly. The workflow sidesteps AirDrop, offering a native‑like experience without leaving Android.

Google unveiled the feature during The Android Show: I/O Edition, positioning it as a bridge between the two dominant mobile ecosystems. Files travel through an encrypted channel; end‑to‑end encryption ensures only the intended recipient can open them, and the URL expires after 24 hours and cannot be reshared. By promising a private, time‑bound link, Google hopes to quell long‑standing security worries.

Rollout begins this week and should reach all Android devices by the end of June. Users stuck in mixed‑platform households finally gain a frictionless way to share photos, documents, or videos without third‑party apps. For Google, the move sharpens Quick Share’s value proposition and nudges iOS users toward Google’s broader services, tightening the rivalry between the two OS giants.
