Tesla has removed the lane-centering feature, Autosteer, from standard equipment on new Model 3 and Model Y purchases in the U.S. and Canada. The automaker now requires a Full Self-Driving Supervised (FSD) subscription, priced at $99 per month, to access what was previously a basic safety feature.

This shift aligns with Tesla's upcoming move to an FSD subscription-only model. After February 14, the $8,000 upfront purchase option disappears, making the annual cost for lane centering and FSD $1,188. Elon Musk has also indicated the monthly fee will rise as the software's capabilities improve.

The change appears tied to Musk's massive compensation package, which includes a milestone of 10 million active FSD subscriptions. For consumers, this means a previously standard feature now carries a recurring cost, altering the value proposition of Tesla's entry-level EVs.
