Meta Launches Discreet Forum App for Facebook Groups

Meta quietly dropped a new app called Forum, a dedicated hub for Facebook Groups, without a headline or press release. Matt Navarra spotted the title in the App Store, where the description promises a space for “conversations that matter most.” Forum pulls Group chats into a single feed, bypassing the main Facebook timeline.

Users must sign in with a Facebook account, carrying over profile data and existing activity. Unlike Reddit’s anonymity, Forum lets members post under pseudonyms, yet group admins see real identities. The interface prioritizes posts from joined Groups, and a first‑time prompt suggests additional communities that match a user’s interests.

Forum’s feed differs from the algorithm‑driven Facebook stream by showing only Group discussions, while still syncing posts across both apps. Meta added AI tools: “Ask,” which aggregates answers from multiple Groups to answer a query, and an admin assistant to aid moderators. The product is currently in public beta testing.

Reintroducing a Groups‑centric app echoes Facebook’s 2017 standalone Groups launch, but Forum embraces modern AI to streamline conversations. By centralizing community dialogue and offering automated search, Meta seeks to keep users within its ecosystem. The move signals a push to rival platforms that thrive on niche, group‑based discussions.
