Samsung Patent Reveals Rollable Phone with Moving Camera

A new Samsung patent, spotted by WearView, details a smartphone with a rollable display and a movable rear camera module that shifts as the screen expands. The design includes a rear cutout for the camera, allowing it to move in tandem with the display.

With the screen retracted, the device resembles a conventional flagship like the Galaxy S series. Fully extended, its form factor approaches that of a foldable, similar to a future Galaxy Z Fold. The patent describes sensors to detect hardware changes from the moving parts.

This isn't Samsung's first exploration of such tech; the company showed a rollable OLED prototype in 2023 and filed an earlier rollable/foldable patent in 2021. While most patents never ship, the filing signals Samsung's continued interest in rollable smartphone designs, competing with concepts like the Moto Rizr and Tecno Phantom Ultimate.
