Samsung Prepares Two Wide Foldables for 2027

Samsung is reportedly developing two wide foldable phones for the Galaxy Z9 generation in 2027, aiming to address the main weakness of today’s squarer Fold displays by using a wider aspect ratio optimized for movies and YouTube, making widescreen video look more natural when the device is unfolded, and potentially enhancing multitasking for users who rely on the inner screen.

The company could introduce up to six foldable models, including a regular Fold, a Fold Ultra, a Flip, a Tri Fold successor, and the two new wide variants. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has already captured about 70% of the pre‑order volume for the Z8 series, which set a record of 1.44 million pre‑orders in South Korea, compared with 1.09 million for the previous generation.

Although the specifications remain unconfirmed and could change during development, the timing fits with earlier software hints of a Wide Fold Model in One UI 9, indicating Samsung has been preparing this form factor for months. More concrete details should surface as the launch approaches, and the critical question will be whether Samsung can meaningfully differentiate the two wide devices and justify the expanded lineup. If Samsung succeeds, the wide‑screen Fold could become the go‑to device for streaming and content creation, reshaping the foldable market.
