Meta is bringing its AI chatbot to Threads with a Grok-like feature that lets Meta AI publicly reply to posts with additional context. The company is launching an official @meta.ai account on Threads, allowing users to chat with the bot alongside their regular conversations. This early beta is rolling out first to users in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore.

The feature mirrors how Grok operates on X, where users frequently ask the AI to verify viral posts. Users can invoke Meta AI in replies or ask questions like "why are people talking about the World Cup this month?" However, this raises concerns given Grok's history of controversial outputs on X, including pro-Nazi rants and inappropriate content generation. Meta is offering user controls to mute the account and hide unwanted replies.

The Threads integration is part of Meta's broader AI push powered by the new Muse Spark model. The company is also testing "side chats" for WhatsApp group conversations and expanding Live AI to the Meta AI app, with the Spark model rolling out to Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses in the US and Canada.
