Meta is rolling out its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to direct messages (DMs) on Threads globally, starting today. This expansion follows an initial test of Meta AI on Threads' public feed in May. Meta states the move is a response to user feedback requesting more private interaction with the AI.

The DM feature allows users to share Threads posts, images, links, or videos directly with Meta AI, enabling deeper exploration of topics in a one-on-one conversation. Similar AI functionalities are already present across Meta's other platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, Meta AI's presence on Threads' public feeds is still under testing. Initially launched in five countries (Argentina, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore), users in these regions can see and interact with Meta AI's posts by tagging @meta.ai. While directly blocking the AI account remains unavailable, users can opt to mute AI replies by selecting "not interested."
