Threads 'Dear Algo' Feature Gives Users 3-Day Feed Control

Meta's Threads app is rolling out a new feature called "Dear Algo" that lets users control their feed's algorithm for three days. The feature, which is powered by AI, allows users to make public posts requesting more or less of specific content types, such as sports or hobbies. Users can also adopt others' requests for their own feeds.

Starting February 11, the feature is available to users in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand to more regions "soon." Threads says this gives users more personalization power, similar to Instagram's "Your Algorithm" feature that launched in December for Reels content. That feature lets users see and adjust what Instagram's AI thinks they want to see.

While the three-day limit may feel restrictive, the ability to directly influence content recommendations marks a shift toward user control in social media algorithms. This move follows broader industry trends of giving users more transparency and customization options. For now, Threads users can experiment with the feature to fine-tune their experience, though some may wish for longer-lasting or more permanent algorithmic adjustments.
