Meta replaced its Llama models with Muse Spark last month, integrating the new AI into its Meta AI app with fresh capabilities. The redesigned AI experience debuted April 8 and quickly climbed to #4 most downloaded on the US iPhone App Store, rivaling ChatGPT and Gemini.

Voice conversations are now powered by Muse Spark, allowing natural dialogue with interruption and topic switching. The AI can generate images and pull Reels recommendations in real time. Live AI, previously exclusive to Ray-Ban Meta glasses, now works in the app—users can point cameras at landmarks or household items for instant analysis.

Muse Spark is expanding beyond the standalone app into Meta's ecosystem. The technology now powers search bars, group chats, and posts across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Threads, where a new @meta.ai mention feature lets users call the assistant directly in replies. Side chats also enable private answers grounded in group discussions.

The Llama model transition marks Meta's aggressive push to compete with OpenAI and Google in consumer AI. With deep integration across its social platforms and a top-tier app ranking, Meta is positioning itself as a major player in the AI assistant space.
