Lego Education unveiled a new Computer Science and AI Learning Solution at CES, following its Smart Play system debut. The kit uses Lego bricks and hardware to teach AI fundamentals without building chatbots. Andrew Silwinski, Lego Education's head of product experience, emphasized the focus on foundational concepts like probability and algorithmic bias, which predate modern AI tools.

The courses are designed for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8, with kits supporting four students. This move addresses a study Lego commissioned, which found teachers lack resources to teach these subjects engagingly. Unlike consumer AI tools, Lego's lessons avoid anthropomorphizing AI and process all data locally on classroom devices, ensuring no information leaves the student's device.

Silwinski noted Lego began developing the curriculum before the AI boom, aiming to demystify the technology's core mechanics. The kits require minimal screen time, especially for younger grades, and can operate in a mesh mode without a computer. Pricing starts at $339.95 for K-2 sets, with shipments beginning in April.
