Google relaxes Gemini cocktail ban on Nest Hub

Google has tweaked its Gemini for Home assistant to stop blocking cocktail queries on Nest Hub devices. Previously the AI would refuse a simple request like “how do I make a margarita,” citing age‑gated beverage restrictions. The new safeguard distinguishes adult users from child filters, letting grown‑ups pull up drink recipes without hitting a dead end for everyday home cooks.

The change appears on Google’s support page, which notes that adults now enjoy “improved availability for general queries, including recipes for age‑gated beverages.” If Gemini still stays silent, users are instructed to review Parental Control and response‑filter settings in the Google Home app. The update also adds thumbs‑up/down buttons on smart displays to collect real‑time feedback quickly for users today.

Beyond cocktail permissions, Gemini now responds faster to routine commands like setting alarms and can pull personalized data such as a nanny’s name from security‑camera feeds. A “Home Brief” feature summarizes activity while you were away, and the new feedback loop promises tighter tuning of answers. The rollout nudges Google’s smart‑home AI toward a more adult‑friendly, conversational experience in practice.
