Ford has officially named its upcoming midsize electric truck based on its Universal EV Platform: the Fathom. Set to start at $28,350 (or $29,945 after destination), the Fathom aims to be an affordable EV pickup, contrasting with competitors that may offer fewer standard features. Ford states that every Fathom will include a high-res touchscreen, hands-free highway driving via Blue Cruise, digital keys, and embedded Apple Maps.

The truck will also feature bi-directional power capability, allowing it to power tools, appliances, or even a home in emergencies. Ford claims the Fathom will offer more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, with ample cargo space in both its bed and frunk. While a full design reveal is pending, spy shots suggest a size between the Ranger and Maverick with futuristic styling.

The Fathom represents a significant step for Ford's EV transition, especially following the discontinuation of the F-150 Lightning. With only the Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit currently in its all-electric lineup, the Fathom could significantly bolster Ford's offerings against rivals. Pre-orders are anticipated to start in early 2027, with deliveries expected later that year. The Fathom's combination of affordability and standard features positions it as a potentially strong contender in the growing electric truck market.
