Bose just announced a refresh of its popular QuietComfort headphones, the first hardware update in three years. These new cans sport several improvements when compared to the previous generation, starting at $359.

They include Bose's Immersive Audio feature, previously exclusive to the Ultra series — a spatial audio algorithm using built-in motion sensors to mimic a 3D soundstage. The headphones also offer Cinema Mode for clearer dialogue, and USB-C audio enabling wired lossless playback up to 24bit/48kHz. Two-way USB-C audio delivers clearer voice signals for videoconferencing, and the headphones work while charging.

The noise cancellation algorithm now "responds more naturally to sudden spikes of noise" in Aware Mode, while the six-microphone ANC system compensates for gaps in the ear cup seal — helpful for glasses wearers. Hardware updates include an upgraded headband, plusher cushioning, and oval-shaped earcups in limited-edition colorways plus black or white.

Preorders open August 8 with shipments starting August 13.
