Apple's iPhone 17e arrives with modest upgrades over its predecessor, maintaining the $599 price point while adding MagSafe wireless charging. The new model keeps the same physical design, display specifications, and camera system as the iPhone 16e, focusing improvements primarily on internal performance. This annual update strategy marks a shift from Apple's previous periodic iPhone SE releases.

Both models share identical dimensions at 5.78 x 2.82 x 0.31 inches and weigh nearly the same, with the 17e coming in at 5.96 ounces versus 5.88 ounces for the 16e. The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display remains unchanged with 2,532 x 1,170 resolution and 460ppi density. The camera system also carries over, featuring the same 48MP Fusion rear camera with 2x telephoto zoom and 12MP TrueDepth front camera.

The key upgrade lies in the processor, as Apple moves from the A18 to the A19 chip. While both use a six-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores, the A19 adds Neural Accelerators to each GPU core, enhancing machine learning capabilities and Apple Intelligence features. Benchmark tests show approximately 12-16% performance improvements in single and multi-core tasks, though the A19's four-core GPU is one less than the standard iPhone 17 model.
