Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 17e next week, marking the first update to its budget smartphone line since the controversial iPhone 16e. CEO Tim Cook confirmed the event, where the new model is expected to address several criticisms of its predecessor. The most significant upgrade is the inclusion of the A19 chip, bringing the same processing power found in last year's iPhone 17 to the more affordable model.

This chip upgrade ensures the iPhone 17e remains future-proof for users who don't upgrade frequently, offering enhanced performance and AI capabilities through its Neural Engine. Another major improvement is the return of MagSafe support, which was notably absent from the iPhone 16e. This change not only restores Apple's magnetic charging solution but also reinstates compatibility with the extensive ecosystem of MagSafe accessories that have become standard since the iPhone 12's introduction in 2020.

The iPhone 17e will also feature an 18MP Center Stage front camera, matching the selfie capabilities of the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro. Additional upgrades include the newer C1X 5G modem and N1 wireless chip for improved connectivity. While rumors suggest a possible switch from the notch to a Dynamic Island, this remains unconfirmed.
