Energizer launches child-safe AirTag batteries

Energizer has introduced Ultimate Child Shield batteries specifically designed to address safety concerns with Apple's AirTag. The compact tracking devices use lithium coin batteries that pose serious risks to children if swallowed. Regulators have previously deemed these batteries choking hazards, forcing Apple to update safety warnings for AirTags.

The new batteries feature no-burn technology that prevents esophageal burns if ingested, potentially avoiding life-threatening injuries that can occur within two hours. Additional safety measures include Color Alert technology that stains saliva blue and a non-toxic bitter coating designed to encourage spitting out the battery. Apple previously questioned whether bitter coatings would work with AirTags, but Energizer insists compatibility.

Energizer's CR2032 model matches the battery used in AirTags, making it a direct solution to safety concerns. While the company already sells Child Shield batteries with bitter coatings and Color Alert features, the anti-burn technology is exclusive to the Ultimate range. The batteries are now available across the United States, though pricing details remain undisclosed.
