Apple drops BOE for iPhone 18 Pro OLED supply

Apple is set to skip Chinese panel maker BOE for the OLED screens of its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, according to supply‑chain sources cited by The Elec. BOE, which managed a limited run for the iPhone 17 Pro, has struggled with yield and LTPO+ quality, prompting Apple to lean on established partners. The decision will be finalized before May 2026.

Samsung Display and LG Display are slated to supply the bulk of Apple’s next‑generation panels, with Samsung projected to produce 146 million OLED units and LG around 82 million. Industry insiders say Samsung’s first‑half output rose as Apple placed larger orders, while BOE may only add three to four million units, mainly for older iPhone lines. Higher component costs have also nudged Apple toward early inventory purchases, including screens.

BOE’s track record includes a 2022 fallout when unsanctioned design tweaks cost it iPhone 14 screen orders, and its current LTPO+ lag puts it at a disadvantage as Apple standardizes that technology for better battery life. While BOE’s lower pricing gives Apple leverage in negotiations, the firm’s inability to meet volume‑quality thresholds suggests its role will stay limited to legacy models.
