Apple redirects iPhone OLED panels to Samsung amid BOE woes

Apple has redirected millions of iPhone OLED panel orders from Chinese supplier BOE to Samsung Display after BOE failed to resolve a production snag that surfaced in late 2025. The setback forced a halt on certain models, prompting Samsung to absorb the shortfall over the past two months.

BOE previously supplied OLEDs for the iPhone 13 through 17, including the budget‑friendly 16e and upcoming 17e, but quality lapses now affect the 15, 16 and 17 panels, especially the more demanding LTPO displays. The supplier also wrestles with a lingering trade‑secret dispute that saw the ITC recommend a 15‑year import ban before a 2025 settlement and royalty payment to Samsung.

For Apple, leaning on Samsung secures a stable supply chain ahead of the spring launch of the iPhone 17e, where BOE still holds the largest allocation. Analysts will watch whether Samsung’s increased volume pressures pricing or spurs Apple to diversify further, while BOE races to regain confidence for future LTPO models.
