Apple Eyes Split‑View for Upcoming iPhone Fold

Apple faces a design dilemma with the new iPhone Fold, whose wide, 7.8‑inch screen squashes traditional portrait apps. To keep interfaces sharp, the company may need to adopt a layout shift similar to what the iPad uses.

Leaks from Fixed Focus Digital on May 31 suggest Apple is developing a parallel view for iOS. The feature would let two portrait‑oriented apps sit side‑by‑side, mirroring the iPad’s Split View.

This move echoes Mark Gurman’s March report that side‑by‑side multitasking will arrive on the Fold. It means iOS will borrow productivity tricks from iPadOS without switching platforms entirely.

Consumers will gain a more tablet‑like experience on a phone, allowing multitasking on a single device. For developers, adapting apps to a squarer aspect ratio becomes a priority before the Fold hits market.
