Apple cuts China App Store commission to 25% amid regulatory pressure

Apple is reducing its App Store commission in China from 30% to 25% starting March 15, a move aimed at appeasing Chinese regulators. The change affects in-app purchases and paid app transactions, while the Small Business Program and Mini Apps Partner Program will see rates drop from 15% to 12%.

This adjustment comes amid years of regulatory scrutiny over Apple's commission structure. Chinese authorities have been pushing back against the 30% standard rate, with tensions escalating after President Trump imposed tariffs on China in 2025. Apple announced the new rates through its developer blog, signaling a strategic concession to maintain its position in the world's largest app market.

The lower commission applies to auto-renewals of in-app purchase subscriptions after the first year. Mini Apps, which are transactions within super apps popular in China, will also benefit from the reduced rates. Apple stated its commitment to providing "fair and transparent" terms and competitive rates that match or beat those in other markets.
