Apple Settles EU App Store Antitrust Battle

Apple's long-running antitrust battle with the European Union over iPhone app sales appears to be resolved. The EU has welcomed Apple's new app commission rates, which range from 5% to 26% depending on developer turnover and chosen sales channels.

Under the revised terms, developers pay 26% for App Store apps using Apple In-App Purchase, while most developers including those in the Small Business Program pay 15%. Alternative payment processing carries a 20% commission, reduced to 10% for qualifying programs. Apps linking out for purchases face a 15% commission, with a 10% rate for eligible developers. Apps distributed via alternative marketplaces or web pay a 5% Core Technology Commission.

The European Commission confirmed it welcomed these changes, noting they follow close dialogue after a non-compliance decision and preliminary findings issued in April 2025. The Commission will now monitor Apple's implementation of the new terms.

While the EU dispute appears settled, Apple continues facing challenges in the US, where it seeks settlement talks with Epic Games, though the developer remains skeptical. A court will determine next steps.
