Apple today submitted a court-ordered proposal outlining the commission it believes is reasonable to collect from U.S. apps that link to purchase options outside of the App Store. Apple is asking for half of its commission on standard apps, so apps that would pay 30 percent for an in-app purchase would pay 15 percent when linking to a web purchase option. Small Business Program participants that normally pay 15 percent would pay 5 percent.

These proposed fees apply when someone uses an app, taps a link, and then makes a purchase on the linked website. Apple says the fees are lower than Google's link-out rates in the Epic v. Google case. The proposal was submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, where Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers must determine a reasonable fee for Apple's intellectual property.

The case stems from Apple's legal dispute with Epic Games in 2021. After appeals, Apple implemented a 12 to 27 percent fee, which Epic complained about. In April 2025, Judge Rogers barred Apple from charging any fee on links, but the appeals court said Apple is entitled to compensation. The case is now before the Supreme Court, which will hear arguments starting in October. The district court will evaluate Apple's fee proposal and hear Epic's response.
