Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new MacBook Ultra this fall, expanding its premium 'Ultra' lineup. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the device will feature a complete redesign that is thinner and lighter than the current MacBook Pro, though it will retain enough ports to appeal to professional users.

Originally expected to use M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, the MacBook Ultra will instead ship with existing M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. Apple has reportedly scrapped M6 plans in favor of accelerating development of upcoming M7 chips, which are expected in future models.

The MacBook Ultra will reportedly introduce several firsts for Mac, including a touchscreen display and OLED screen technology. macOS Golden Gate will include optimizations for touch-friendly controls. Additionally, the device is expected to replace the MacBook Pro's notch with a hole-punch camera cutout and adopt the Dynamic Island feature from iPhone.

A wildcard feature could include cellular connectivity via Apple's in-house C2 modem, though this is unlikely before 2026 when a second-generation modem supporting faster speeds becomes available.
