This new model will feature an OLED display, a first for a Mac, and will introduce a touchscreen interface, a departure from Apple's long-standing indirect input focus. These premium devices will initially launch with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with M7 Pro and M7 Max variants expected in late 2027.

This revised roadmap sees Apple skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips entirely, opting to introduce an M6 chip in an entry-level MacBook Pro this year before jumping to the M7 generation for higher-end models. This creates a potentially confusing product cycle, with multiple chip generations and redesigned models overlapping within roughly a year. The entry-level M7 MacBook Pro is slated to receive the new design first, preceding the more expensive high-end models.

The MacBook Ultra is also expected to incorporate a Dynamic Island, a thinner chassis, and potentially built-in cellular connectivity.
