The touchscreen and OLED panel have dominated discussion about Apple's next high-end laptop, but the redesign wrapped around them may prove equally consequential because it won't stay unique to the MacBook Ultra for long. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports Apple plans to refresh every Mac over the next two years, with the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro (code-named K104) due in 2027 adopting the same design while using a standard M7 chip.

Apple last redesigned the MacBook Pro in 2021, making it thicker and restoring ports. Now the company is reversing that thickness. The new chassis will be noticeably thinner and lighter, aided by swapping mini-LED for a hybrid OLED stack that removes a physical layer. The notch disappears in favor of a pill-shaped hole-punch camera enabling an interactive Dynamic Island, though screen size increases remain unsettled between Omdia's 14.3/16.3-inch claim and Bloomberg's no-change report.

A reinforced hinge will support touch-friendly, not touch-first interaction. Branding remains unresolved—Gurman's roadmap lists high-end 14/16-inch "MacBook" without the Pro suffix. The MacBook Ultra could replace or sit above current M5 Pro/Max models. By late 2027, when high-end models receive M7 Pro/Max chips, all five of Apple's most powerful laptops will likely share the same design.
