Apple Card Turns 7 With Chase Transition Ahead

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the Apple Card becoming widely available in the U.S., following a limited preview period. The card, managed through the iPhone's Wallet app, offers color-coded spending summaries, no fees, and Daily Cash back paid daily. Cardholders can also open a high-yield savings account.

The milestone comes just ahead of a major shift: Chase will become the new Apple Card issuer by early 2028. Currently issued by Goldman Sachs, the partnership is ending as the firm winds down its consumer lending business amid financial losses. Apple reportedly let Goldman Sachs out of its contract early, turning instead to Chase, part of J.P. Morgan.

In a FAQ, Apple confirmed users can continue using the card normally during the transition. Once complete, open account balances will transfer to Chase and appear on credit reports accordingly. Goldman Sachs will handle customer service in the interim, while Mastercard remains the payment network. Additional details will be shared with users as the transition date approaches, with no immediate changes expected until early 2028.

Despite its growth, the Apple Card remains U.S.-only with no announced plans for international expansion.
