iOS 27’s New Lock Screen Clock Shrinks for Cleaner Wallpapers

iOS 27 now lets users shrink the Lock Screen clock, a tweak that frees wallpaper space. Apple added the feature after last year’s move to enlarge the clock on Liquid‑Glass designs. The new setting hides the time in the top‑right widget row, keeping the background clear for the first time for users who prefer a cleaner look.

Earlier releases let users enlarge the clock, but the change clashed with high‑resolution wallpapers. By moving it to a smaller font in the widget strip, iOS 27 restores visual balance. The move also aligns with Apple’s focus on minimalist design and provides a subtle way to keep the Home‑Screen uncluttered for power users who value customization.

To activate, open Settings, tap Wallpaper, then choose a new image. In the Font & Color panel, a new icon appears in the top‑right corner. Tapping it shrinks the clock to a tiny font in the top widget row. The change is visible immediately without a restart enabling a cleaner view for late‑night notifications.

For users who carry an Apple Watch, the minimized clock reduces visual noise on the phone. The tweak also appeals to designers who want an unobstructed canvas. With iOS 27, the Lock Screen can now showcase a full‑bleed image, meeting expectations set by previous iOS 26 enhancements making the feature a welcomed addition for daily users.
