Worldwide tablet shipments experienced a significant decline in Q2 2026, falling 9.9% year-over-year to 35.5 million units, according to a new report from Omdia. This marks the first time in years that Q2 shipments did not see a seasonal increase driven by back-to-school demand.

Despite an 8% drop in its own shipments, Apple maintained its market leadership, shipping 13.5 million iPads for a 37.8% market share. Samsung followed with 5.8 million shipments, trailed by Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei. Notably, Lenovo was the only top-five vendor to achieve growth, with a 27.1% increase in shipments.

Research Manager Himani Mukka of Omdia commented that while the slowdown was anticipated, the market had shown resilience in prior quarters. Mukka highlighted that tablets are an integral part of many households and are increasingly replacing traditional PCs for everyday computing due to affordability and growing availability of larger screens. However, ongoing component supply constraints are expected to lead vendors to prioritize other categories over tablets, shifting portfolios towards premium devices.
