Apple Watch Ultra Review: Best Watch I Don't Need

After nearly four years with the Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2, I can confirm it's Apple's best-built wearable. The larger display, titanium case, Action Button, and extended battery life are tangible upgrades. Yet for daily use—fitness tracking, sleep monitoring, and ecosystem features—the standard Series 11 offers identical performance, as both share the same S10 SiP chip.

My routine proves the Ultra's extreme capabilities are largely untapped. I don't dive, hike with its GPS, or rely on its SOS. The real value is the battery, allowing multi-day use without charging. This creates a dilemma: paying nearly double for a rugged build and extra power when most users, including myself, don't leverage its adventure-focused hardware.

At a current price of $549, the Ultra 2 becomes more compelling, costing only about $30 more than a cellular Series 11. This narrows the gap significantly. For the right buyer—someone who needs the battery and durability—it's justified. For everyone else, the premium is for features they may never use, making the standard model the smarter buy.
