Apple TV Adds Dolby MAT Fix for Sonos Audio Issues

Apple has introduced a new Continuous Audio Connection setting in tvOS 26.4 that addresses audio playback problems for users with Sonos speakers and AV receivers. The feature enables Dolby MAT connections to ensure glitch-free playback across audio formats, particularly benefiting those experiencing popping noises or volume inconsistencies with 5.1-channel content.

The update comes after numerous complaints from Sonos users about audio quality issues when using Apple TV with their receivers. Some users reported that 5.1 multichannel PCM content played at significantly lower volumes compared to Atmos content. The new setting appears to resolve these problems by maintaining consistent audio levels across different formats without requiring workarounds like disabling eARC or forcing Dolby Digital encoding.

However, the solution isn't perfect. Some Sonos users have reported new issues when playing stereo content with the setting enabled. The feature is currently available in beta testing, allowing Apple to refine the implementation before wider release. This audio fix represents Apple's ongoing efforts to improve the Apple TV experience for users with complex home theater setups.
