tvOS 27 Brings Hi-Res Lossless Audio to Apple TV 4K

Apple Music will support Hi-Res Lossless Audio on Apple TV 4K with the upcoming tvOS 27 update. The streaming service currently offers standard Lossless Audio up to 24-bit/48 kHz on the current tvOS 26, but cannot handle Hi-Res tracks that extend to 24-bit/192 kHz. This upgrade brings the full Apple Music catalog quality to the living room experience.

The limitation has been notable because Apple Music introduced Hi-Res Lossless on iOS devices in 2021, yet the Apple TV 4K remained stuck at the lower quality tier. Subscribers with compatible external speakers can stream these higher-quality recordings, though the audible difference depends on equipment and listener sensitivity.

Developer beta testing is already underway, with registered developers able to download tvOS 27 through Settings > System > Software Update > Beta Updates. The public release arrives this fall alongside other Apple platform updates.

This fills a gap in Apple's ecosystem where audio quality was inconsistent across devices. Users with high-end speaker setups finally get native Hi-Res support without workarounds, though most casual listeners may not notice the improvement.
