IDC’s Q1 2026 shipment report reveals Apple delivered 6.2 million Macs, posting a 9.1 % year‑over‑year increase and nudging its worldwide PC market share to 9.5 %. The growth placed the company fourth among traditional PC vendors, trailing Lenovo, HP and Dell, while ASUS surged ahead to capture 7.2 % of the market. Its rebound contrasts with HP’s decline and underscores consumer appetite for premium laptops.

Overall PC shipments edged up modestly, but lingering component shortages and a weakening macro environment curbed momentum across regions. Lenovo led with 16.5 million units and 8.6 % growth; HP fell 4.9 % to 12.1 million, and Dell rose 7.7 % to 10.3 million. IDC warned that memory scarcity will test supply chains, favoring vendors able to secure components for every price tier. ASUS posted a 17.1 % surge, briefly outpacing Apple.

Supply constraints have already shown up in longer lead times for high‑RAM Mac models, with some Mac Studio configurations back‑ordered for up to five months. Apple’s last earnings call acknowledged tighter margins for the March quarter, and analysts expect the April 30 report to address how memory bottlenecks are shaping profitability. Customers may face delayed upgrades, straining Apple’s service.
