Support for banning cellphones in schools is reaching new highs as the back-to-school season begins. A recent Pew Research Center survey reveals that 77% of U.S. adults now favor prohibiting middle and high school students from using cellphones during class. This marks a significant increase from 68% in 2024 and 74% in 2025.

Furthermore, the idea of a stricter "bell-to-bell" ban, preventing cellphone use for the entire school day, is also gaining traction. For the first time, more Americans support this comprehensive ban than oppose it. Approximately 48% of U.S. adults back these all-day bans, up from 36% in 2024, though 43% still oppose the measure.

While support has grown across all age groups, younger adults remain less enthusiastic compared to older demographics. The survey highlights a clear trend towards stricter policies regarding student cellphone usage during school hours.
