Waymo is resuming its freeway operations for its robotaxis, beginning today in Phoenix. This marks a return to multi-lane roads after the Alphabet-owned company paused highway driving in May due to several incidents where its vehicles entered construction zones.

Waymo stated it identified an area for improvement regarding performance in freeway construction zones and paused operations to address this. The company plans to "soon" reintroduce freeway services in Miami, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Customers interested in using Waymo on freeways can join an interest list via the Waymo app. While access will be granted, Waymo notes that vehicles may still be rerouted due to factors like heavy traffic or construction. Users can review their route and estimated arrival time before booking a ride.
