AT&T has finalized its $23 billion acquisition of spectrum licenses from EchoStar, a deal first announced last August. This strategic purchase grants AT&T approximately 50MHz of low-band and mid-band spectrum across over 400 US markets. The acquired spectrum includes 30MHz of 3.45GHz mid-band and 20MHz of 600MHz low-band frequencies.

This acquisition is poised to significantly enhance AT&T's 5G network capacity and download speeds. The company stated the move will help deliver an "AI-ready connected experience" by improving uplink capabilities. This expansion aims to bolster AT&T's 5G offerings and provide a more robust wireless experience for its customers.

Furthermore, AT&T expects this spectrum acquisition to accelerate and broaden the availability of its Internet Air service, which provides home internet through its wireless network. This allows AT&T to migrate customers from older copper-based services, both in areas designated for AT&T Fiber deployment and in those where fiber is not planned.
