Verizon secured 82 spectrum licenses in the FCC’s first auction in four years, paying $3.16 billion. The haul gives the carrier a broad array of bands across the U.S., boosting its 5G rollout. The deal places Verizon ahead of rivals in spectrum depth despite higher spend.

T‑Mobile grabbed 102 licenses for $277.8 million, the largest quantity of spectrum awarded. AT&T won 10 licenses at $120.8 million, while SpaceX acquired two for $8.49 million. Smaller winners included Echo Star and Blue Ridge Communications, all contributing to the auction’s total proceeds of over $3.5 billion.

The FCC said up to $3.3 billion of the proceeds will cover debts that funded FCC and Commerce Department programs. The auction’s revenue boost strengthens the agency’s financial footing and signals a return to active spectrum allocation, setting a new benchmark for future telecom investments.

Investors view the spectrum gains as a long‑term competitive edge, particularly for Verizon’s 5G strategy. The hefty spend reflects the premium value of mid‑band frequencies, while T‑Mobile’s lower cost signals a focus on cost‑effective spectrum. Regulators praised the auction for restoring market liquidity after a four‑year pause today.
